Universities across the world partner with weapons manufacturers, investing student fees into the arms industry, funding research that fuels war, and promoting careers in the military-industrial complex. Instead of fostering critical thinking and ethical responsibility, they fail to educate students on the human cost\u2014the displacement, destruction, and human rights violations caused by the very companies they support.<\/p>

This is not just complicity; it\u2019s active participation in war and conflict. By allowing the arms trade to shape research, funding, and career pathways, universities are reinforcing a system that profits from global suffering.<\/p>

It\u2019s time to demilitarise education and reclaim universities as spaces for peace, not war.<\/p>

The Solution
<\/strong>Demilitarise Education (dED)<\/em> is breaking the ties between universities and the arms trade. Our Universities and Arms Database exposes billions of pounds of\u00a0 UK university partnerships with the arms industry, fueling student-led resistance. With 1000's of partnerships tracked and counting, dED<\/em> holds institutions accountable and pushes for divestment, policy change, and reinvestment in ethical research.<\/p>

dED<\/em> doesn\u2019t just track partnerships and campaigns on the database but also supports and strategises with students, providing research, training, and a powerful network to drive action. Targeting university governance creates long-term change that ensures education serves peace, not war.<\/p>

At the heart of this movement is the Demilitarise Education Treaty\u2014a commitment and compliance mechanism guiding institutional dissociation with the military-industrial-academic complex. It\u2019s our blueprint for a university system that prioritises people and planet over profit and conflict.<\/p>
